Adult Basic Training and Confidence Booster

Over the last 15 years cycling is becoming more and more popular.  With more and more people using bikes for leisure, commuting and for keeping healthy and fit, it is being seen as the sustainable transport and activity for the 21st Century.

At CDNE we have found that a surprising number of adults, for various reasons, do not get an opportunity to learn to ride a bike when young. Other adults do not cycle for a long time and find that they have lost their confidence when it comes to getting back in the saddle.

CDNE offers a range of courses that are designed to make you feel confident and comfortable on a bike, whether you’ve never ridden a bike before, or returning to cycling after time away.

Many people feel as if they are the only person who cannot ride a bike and don’t know where to start.  So whether you want to join in with your kids or grandchildren, take more exercise, cycle with your partner or build up to a cycle holiday or challenge, such as the C2C, our easy to access courses provide a friendly and gentle way back into cycling.

Course 1: Beginners and Novices

For those who are complete novices and want to start at the beginning again our introduction to cycling comprises the basics of:

The Theory:   How you balance and control a bicycle

The Equipment:   An introduction to the kit and how it should be set up

A Demonstration:   Highlighting what you need to focus on

Practice:   Your turn to have a go!

These are delivered in a series of 2 half-day sessions to fit in with your lifestyle and are delivered on completely traffic free areas, dedicated to cycling either in Sunderland or Middlesbrough.

We offer 1-2-1 coaching, through to a ratio of 8-1 if required.  All women sessions can also be arranged.

If you have a bike and bike helmet, bring it along.  We can provide bikes and helmets (by prior arrangement).  Our coaches are enthusiastic and supportive, allowing you to develop at your own pace.  There is no pass or fail at the end so no pressure, just a laugh, chuckle and sense of achievement ready to progress on to your next level.

Course 2: Adult Returning to Cycling

For those that have some confidence on the bike and want to get more our of it or progress we provide a one day session aimed at building your confidence and allowing you to explore the hidden ability for cycling within you.

Our sessions are tailored to your ability and goals and our trained instructors will take you on routes designed to help build your confidence. These routes are off-road cycle tracks, so you don’t have to worry about any traffic. An example of the day would be:

Introduction: covering the basics of brakes, turning and gears.

Morning session: A gentle traffic free ride, enjoying the scenery and becoming comfortable on the bike

Lunch: Including a debrief and revisiting what was learnt

Afternoon session: Re-emphasising what was learnt in the morning and building on it.

We don’t go very fast or too far. There are plenty of stops and opportunities to enjoy the countryside.
